On the opening day which was the hardest of the five days Pidcock went on the attack early but couldn’t sprint for the win. He finished in eighth place and lost 39 seconds. On day two he was more patient and completed the work done by the team of Gianluca Brambilla, Damien Howson, David González, Frederik Frison, Nick Zukowsky and Emīls Liepiņš with a spectacular win.

I think yesterday I was a bit too ambitious, a bit too active too early ,” Pidcock reflected after his win. “I paid for it in the final, which was unfortunate, but I learned a good lesson. Today, I made amends for that. I played it smart, worked the tactics well, and it’s super nice to get the hands up in the air. The team fully committed to me, and it’s nice to be able to repay that”.

“I enjoyed the race with some really hard stages and hard racing with the team

On the third day the team went all-in to go for the bonus seconds. Pidcock managed to get six of the available nine seconds at the intermediate sprint and moved a little closer to second place on the general classification. Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team continued its streak of top ten places with a fourth place for Tom.

The fourth day was for the breakaway where Emīls Liepiņš represented the team. Sadly, he missed out on the decisive move and had to settle for ninth place. On the final day where David González represented the team in the day’s breakaway, Tom managed another top ten, finishing the race in third place overall.

I enjoyed the race with some really hard stages and hard racing with the team. I got to throw my hands in the air and am third on the general classification so that’s great. We also made some mistakes. On day one I was a bit too enthusiastic and overly confident and that cost us the general classification, but we learn every day. My shape is good, and I look forward to the next race at Omloop Nieuwsblad.
