MATTEO MOSCHETTI SPRINTS TO VICTORY IN ALMERÍA
Italian Matteo Moschetti sprinted to glory this Sunday, February 12 in Clásica de Almería seizing the first ever win for Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team. In a hectic bunch sprint finale, the 26-year-old showed his phenomenal turn of speed and took an emphatic victory in Roquetas de Mar.

The 190 km UCI 1.Pro race in south of Spain was animated by an early break of three riders who attacked from kilometer zero and opened a gap of upwards of seven minutes. The trio was ultimately reeled in at 67 km to go, when the race entered the eastward route to Roquetas de Mar. Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team rode attentively all day, keep Moschetti out of harm’s way and in great position. American Corey Davis, one of the teams neo-pros, was involved in a crash but managed to regain his position in the bunch.
With 20 km to go, in a crosswind section, the bunch was fragmented into several groups but Q36.5 Pro Cycling was always on the front foot and kept a good position at the fore, ensuring Moschetti was always the right side of the splits.
In the end, the victory was decided in a bunch sprint with Moschetti launching an explosive sprint and beating strong opposition on the finishing line, including Arnaud de Lie (Lotto Dtsny) and Jordie Meeu to claim the eight win of his career and the first in the Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team jersey.
Team Work
“It’s a really special victory for all of us! We’re a new team and this was one of our first races so to already have a nice win like that is important for not just me, but all the riders, all the staff and, of course, all the sponsors. It was a really nice day for us but it was not easy. It was quite windy but we managed well to always be in a good position in the most dangerous sectors,” said Moschetti. “The guys did an amazing job, it’s one of the first races that were racing together so it’s not easy to find each other in such a technical final. In the final I was a bit far back so I tried to launch my sprint early. I had good legs and felt it was a good moment to launch. And luckily, I was right and we got the victory!”
Tricky Finish
“We focused fully on Matteo today. When they cancelled Antalya, a race that Matteo was focused on scheduled to race, therefore we changed his programme and lined him up for Almería. Tactically breakaways weren’t allowed for our team today, we wanted to focus totally on Matteo and keep him in good position of the climbs. After that our plan was to stay out of trouble and as much in the front as possible. The last kilometers had many roundabouts which made it very hectic and we had to be attentive. The wind also played a factor today, starting from the last 40 km. There were crosswinds and the bunch split into several groups. We were sharp, we knew what was coming and the team was in a line going full gas for Matteo. In the last lap with three kilometers to go we were in great position amongst some very good teams and sprinters. Matteo beat everyone and gave a lot of morale to the team. I had told the riders before the race: if you believe it, you achieve it! And today they did just that,” said Aart Vierhouten, DS at Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team.
On his way to victory Matteo Moschetti had the support of neo-pros Fabio Christen (SUI) and Corey Davis (USA), Jack Bauer (NZL), Joey Rosskopf (USA) and Kamil Malecki (POL).
