In Europe we start with the UCI 1.1 race Gran Premio Castellón – Ruta de la Cerámica on Saturday 25th of January. The 171-kilometer-long race only sees its second edition but already boasts an impressive start field including seven world tour teams. The sting is in the tail with the five-kilometer long Collado de Ayódar, average gradient 4,4%, at just 11 kilometers from the line.

The team then travels across the Mediterranean for five very different UCI 1.1 races on the island of Mallorca from 29th of January. The eleven selected riders will be competing in different line-ups on different days.

The first race is on Wednesday 29 January. The Troféo Calvìa is a punchy one where attacks often make it to the finish. The day after follows the Trofeo Ses Salines where a sprint often occurs, then the mountainous Trofeo Serra Tramuntana. This year it ends with a long flat finale instead of the traditional mountain top finish. On Saturday the Trofeo Pollença offers opportunities to the adventurers again with a steep climb to the Mirador d’es Colomer while on Sunday 2 February the series concludes with a sprinter’s race in the capital of Palma.

Q36.5 Procyling Team line-up (different line-ups per day): Gianluca Brambilla, Walter Calzoni, Marcel Camprubí, Fabio Christen, Mark Donovan, David González, Kamil Malecki, Giacomo Nizzolo, Joey Pidcock, Jannik Steimle and Rory Townsend.

Another team travels to Alula, in Saudi Arabia, for the first stage race of the season: the UCI 2.1 Alula Tour from 28 January to 1 February. The opening stage, stage three and five are for the fast men of the bunch like our Matteo Moschetti and Emils Liepins. The general classification will be made on day two with the steep, up to 15%, climb of Wirka Mountain. On day four the riders also face a steep finale (2,9km/12%) to the plateau of Harrat Uwayrid. Those are the days strong puncheurs like Tom Pidcock could take their chance
